This is today’s verse, live, in the two styles.
Get the code
<div class="jtv-votd" data-theme="light" data-translation="bsb">Verse of the Day by <a href="https://justtheverses.com/" rel="nofollow">Just the Verses</a></div>
<script src="https://justtheverses.com/widget/v1/widget.js" async></script> Select the code above and copy it. For the dark style, change light to dark. For the King James Version or the World English Bible, change bsb to kjv or web.
How to add it to your website
The widget fits the space you give it, from a narrow sidebar to a full-width column.
WordPress
- In the editor of a page or post, add a Custom HTML block (or type
/htmlon a new line). - Paste the code and save.
- For a sidebar: with a classic theme, go to Appearance › Widgets, choose the sidebar and add a Custom HTML block there. With a block theme, edit the sidebar in the Site Editor.
On WordPress.com, the free plan removes the script, so only the line “Verse of the Day by Just the Verses” will show; paid plans with hosting features turned on keep it. If WordPress removes the script when you save, your account isn’t allowed to add scripts: ask the site’s administrator.
Wix
- In the Wix Editor, open the Add menu, go to Embed Code and choose Embed HTML (in Wix Studio, Embed code).
- In the element’s settings, choose Code and paste the code.
- Drag the edges of the box until the whole verse fits.
Wix shows the code inside a box of fixed height. Some verses are much longer than others, so leave some room, or the box will scroll on long days.
Squarespace
- Edit the page, hover over a section and click Add block (or +), then choose Code.
- Set the mode to HTML, paste the code and save.
Squarespace runs the script on the Core, Plus and Advanced plans. On the Basic plan, only the line “Verse of the Day by Just the Verses” will show. While you are logged in, Squarespace may hide the code: check the page in Safe Mode preview or logged out.
Any other website
Paste the code into the HTML of the page, where you want the verse to appear.
What the widget counts
The widget sets no cookies and stores nothing in your visitors’ browsers. Each time it shows the verse, it records the name of the website it is on, such as example-church.org. When someone clicks its “Just the Verses” link, it records that click too. We use this to count how many websites use the widget and how many visits it brings. It does not record the page your visitors are reading or their IP address. If a visitor’s browser asks not to be tracked, the widget records nothing. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
